Looking for an Orbus Software alternative?

Orbus is a serious platform with a long track record, and of the established EA vendors it is one of the more genuinely flexible on how you buy. If you are a Microsoft-centred organisation that needs framework depth, it is a strong answer — and this page will not pretend otherwise.

Where it is worth pausing is scope. OrbusInfinity is a broad platform spanning enterprise architecture, business architecture, process analysis and integration. If what you actually need is to know what is past end of support and what you are paying for twice, you may be buying a practice when you wanted an answer.

Buy Orbus, not us

When Orbus is genuinely the better call.

Several of these are things we deliberately do not do, so there is no version of an evaluation where we win them.

  • You need TOGAF, ArchiMate or UML conformance. Orbus states out-of-the-box support for these frameworks. Arcamira is deliberately framework-light — we retired our one framework overlay on purpose. If a conformant model is your deliverable, this is disqualifying for us and decisive for them.
  • You are deeply Microsoft-centred. iServer is explicitly built on the Microsoft technology stack, which Orbus positions as giving a short learning curve and familiar interfaces. If your architecture practice already lives in that ecosystem, that fit is real.
  • You need business process analysis in the same tool. Orbus offers BPA and Business Architecture modules alongside EA. We do not do process modelling at all.
  • You want one platform to grow across many disciplines. The modular structure — IT portfolio management, business architecture, process analysis, integration — is designed for exactly that expansion. Our scope is narrower by intent.
  • You need a large library of pre-built connectors. OrbusInfinity Flow advertises 150+ of them. We integrate with a focused set of discovery sources, not an integration marketplace.
How each is sold

Configurable and quoted, versus flat and published.

Orbus prices around your practice rather than your portfolio — its own framing — and quotes across four dimensions: the modules you pick, integration needs, user licensing by role, and support tier. Licensing separates Authors with full access, Contributors with scoped editing, and unlimited read-only Viewers.

That is a thoughtful model, and notably fairer than pricing on estate size. It is also, unavoidably, a configuration exercise — four dimensions of choice means a conversation with sales before you know whether it is affordable. Nothing is published.

Our answer is narrower and blunter: a flat price per workspace, printed on the page, with a seat bundle included and read-only sharing free. We have less to configure because we do less.

One thing worth asking in any Orbus evaluation: which product is being quoted. Orbus has been transitioning its iServer hosting service to OrbusInfinity — hosted iServer ended on 31 December 2024, while self-hosted iServer continues to be supported. That is a normal platform modernisation rather than a red flag, but "which product am I buying, and what is its roadmap" is a fair question to put to any vendor mid-transition, including us.

Where we differ in practice

A platform to grow into, or an answer this quarter.

Orbus is built for an organisation that intends to develop an architecture practice — several disciplines, several modules, growing over years. That is a legitimate and common ambition, and the modular structure serves it well.

Arcamira assumes the opposite starting point: nobody is going to develop a practice, because nobody has the time. What they have is a renewal next month, an auditor asking about unsupported software, and a suspicion that three tools are doing one job. We optimise for getting to those answers in about an hour and for being cheap enough to decide without a business case.

Arcamira makes sense if…

  • You run roughly 40–600 applications
  • You want the estate catalogued, not modelled
  • Architecture is part of someone's job, not a department
  • You want a price before a sales call
  • End-of-support, duplicate spend and blast radius are the live questions

Choose Orbus if…

  • Framework conformance is a deliverable
  • You need process analysis in the same platform
  • Your practice is Microsoft- and Visio-centred

How much does OrbusInfinity cost?
Orbus does not publish prices. OrbusInfinity is quoted across four dimensions — modules, integration needs, user licensing by role, and support tier — so the figure depends entirely on your configuration. Any specific number you find on a third-party comparison site is an estimate rather than a quoted price.
What is the difference between iServer and OrbusInfinity?
OrbusInfinity is the cloud platform Orbus is moving customers toward; iServer is the longer-established product built on the Microsoft technology stack. Orbus has stated it is transitioning the iServer hosting service to OrbusInfinity, that hosted iServer ended on 31 December 2024, and that self-hosted iServer continues to be supported, with migration assistance offered.
Does Arcamira support TOGAF or ArchiMate?
Not as a conformance deliverable, and that is a deliberate choice rather than a gap we intend to close. We ask of every feature whether it tells you something true about your organisation that nothing else could, or whether it mainly teaches you a framework's vocabulary. Framework overlays fell on the wrong side of that line for our audience — we removed one we had already built. If you need conformance, Orbus is the better buy.
Can Arcamira do process modelling?
No. There is no BPMN or process analysis capability and none planned. If you need architecture and process in one platform, Orbus covers both and we cover one.
We already have Visio diagrams. Can we bring them in?
Not directly, and we would rather say so plainly. Our position on diagram import is that geometry is not semantics — a Visio or draw.io file tells you where boxes sit, not what depends on what, and importing shapes without relationships produces a picture rather than a model. Applications and technologies import cleanly from CSV. If your existing diagrams are the asset you care most about preserving, a Microsoft-native tool like Orbus will serve you better.
